I have been investigating things before leaving for Wigtown on clan business within the week. Having never before travelled such a distance, it was initially overwhelming to get my head around the things that need doing.
I need trousers, food, money. I will take my staff as a weapon. I'm not yet sure if I'll have to slaughter my pigs before leaving, I suspect I will. I will lose at least a couple of days production. It's going to be a major thing for this level 1 peasant.
Still, the pride of MacTavish drives me on. This work needs to be done at this point in proceedings. I need to sit down in a tavern with others so that I can judge them for what they are. We will need some idea of these things once the big broohaha of the Highland Gathering has happened. When the deals are done and the promises made, we will need to know upon whom we can rely.
So, I'll be off to Wigtown shortly after Oct 23 (when I get my trousers from Rubyfox of Whithorn).
In response to my earlier communications to clan 'leaders' whom I know live in Wigtown, I have had postive replies from the Kennedy's, Murrays and O'Broins. No word yet from the Sinclairs (but that doesn't surprise me, they are an 'invite only' clan).
So. I will be meeting in the pubs with the leaders of Kennedy, Murray and O'Broin, and then I will be comparing Wigtown's inhabitant's names on the Town Hall notice board with those on the parchment me ma left me.
And then? Why, a few letters of course!
