This is the MacTavish Coat of Arms proposed by the Lyons Court of Arms (Scotland's heraldric authority). I think it is historical (I have come across several different 'historical' coats of arms for MacTavish Clan and Chieftain on the net)? Looking at this COA, I actually think I quite like it.
The celtic cross/sword refers to the celtic origins of the clan. I'm not sure what the 2 five pointed stars might represent. The creature is, I presume, one of Scotland's horned native species - highland goat perhaps? A fitting clan 'totem'!

Not trying to sound 'cute', but I think the animal is a Red Deer - native to Scotland. Could also be the 'Irish Deer', now extinct, which had a similar look (also known as a 'Great Elk', once ranged from Eire to the Urals).
